Stein Housner is a floating offshore wind systems engineer with a primary research focus on mooring systems for floating offshore wind turbines and wave energy converters. He develops design tools for mooring systems and modeling tools for floating offshore wind turbines and marine hydrokinetic devices. Using these tools, he performs various mooring system design optimizations for floating offshore energy systems, individually or in arrays, including the option for shared mooring systems. Otherwise, Stein works on a variety of other projects, including optimizing the geometry of wave energy converters, analyzing the feasibility of offshore wind in the Great Lakes, and incorporating floating wind supply chain considerations into the design process.
