Shaun Onorato is a certified project management professional and hydrogen systems engineer on the Hydrogen Production, Power, and Storage team at NREL. Shaun manages the heavy-duty hydrogen research and development efforts at NREL’s Energy System’s Integration Facility, which includes the new heavy-duty hydrogen fast flow research station constructed by the NREL team. Heavy-duty hydrogen research is focused on the evaluation of fueling protocols and refueling hardware (dispensers, nozzles, receptacles, breakaways, and hoses).

His professional experience includes 15 years within the hydrogen industry ranging from fuel cell transit bus design, project engineering for the U.S. Department of Energy, and nearly five years as a hydrogen systems engineer/researcher at NREL. Shaun received a mechanical engineering degree and systems engineering graduate degree from Colorado State University in 2007 and 2021, respectively.
