Michael (Misha) Sinner is a research engineer with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. With a background in advanced model-based control of wind energy systems, Misha’s research expertise includes control theory, optimization, estimation, distributed control, and their applications in the future energy system, particularly in wind energy. His recent research efforts combine novel machine learning approaches with established control methods. Misha received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado in summer 2021, where his thesis research was on model predictive control of wind turbines with preview disturbance information. He completed a short postdoc with NREL before joining as a full-time researcher in summer 2022.
