Matt leads moorings research activities at NREL and contributes to the lab's work in floating wind turbine modeling, testing, and design optimization. Matt's experience with floating wind began in grad school, where he explored global optimization techniques for floating wind turbine support structures, developed and validated a hybrid modeling approach for floating wind turbine basin testing, and created the mooring dynamics model MoorDyn. Before joining NREL, Matt was an assistant professor at the University of Prince Edward Island, where he helped establish the sustainable energy curriculum and led research projects on local renewable energy integration and the potential of floating wind farms with shared mooring systems.
