Emm Fulk (she/they) joined NREL in 2022 as a postdoctoral researcher. Their research focuses on metabolic engineering and development of genetic tools for industrially relevant microbes, with the goal of enabling bioprocessing of carbon dioxide and renewably derived feedstocks to value-added products and sustainable aviation fuels.
Emm received their doctorate in 2022 in systems, synthetic, and physical biology from
Rice University and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Northwestern
University. Their doctoral work focused on development of whole-cell biosensors to
understand microbial behavior in complex environments like soils and sediments.
