NREL Accelerates Sustainable Aviation Solutions (Text Version)

This is the text version of the video NREL Accelerates Sustainable Aviation Solutions.

[Narrator speaks]

From how we power our planes, to how we design resilient, secure, and accessible airports and military bases, to the ultra-efficient aerospace technologies that will propel us into the future—sustainable energy technologies are changing the arc of aviation.

As more people than ever see the benefits of traveling by air, and rising greenhouse gas emissions threatens our progress, innovations in sustainable aviation are providing the tools we need to turn the emissions dial all the way to zero.

A leader in clean energy research, development, and deployment, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory is putting its weight behind rapid aviation innovations that will not only permanently lower the carbon intensity of flight but will fundamentally improve the carbon footprint, mobility, and resilience of the entire aviation ecosystem.

Through a coordinated research strategy, NREL is transforming energy in aviation.

Whether supporting an urban or rural airport, a military or commercial flight, a plane fueled with sustainable aviation fuel, hydrogen, or clean electricity, NREL has the tools, expertise, and capabilities needed to develop and deploy advanced technologies.

NREL is committed to asking the right research questions; wielding the best tools for data-driven answers; and forming collaborations to accelerate existing federal, state, and industry programs.

After all—to build the momentum needed to lift us toward bold goals for the future—we need the entire industry on board, including public and private stakeholders.

As the global aviation industry ramps up pledges to decarbonize by mid-century, NREL is applying its world-class expertise and capabilities to rapidly de-risk, integrate, and deploy economical energy solutions.

Aviation may be at an inflection point. But together we have the tools, facilities, and brain power we need to build a safer, more reliable, and sustainable system than ever before.

The skies never close. Neither does NREL.
