Los Angeles 100% Renewable Energy Study Partnership

To achieve a bold goal to power Los Angeles with 100% renewable energy by 2045, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power looked to NREL to analyze potential pathways.

The result is the Los Angeles 100% Renewable Energy Study (LA100), a first-of-its-kind objective, highly detailed, rigorous, and science-based study to analyze steps the community can take to achieve a 100% clean energy future. The study gives the city actionable insights and paves the way for other jurisdictions to reach their own energy goals, equitably and economically.

Energy efficiency in the buildings sector is vital to achieving any renewable energy goal due to hotter climate, population growth, and electrification. NREL ran millions of simulations of thousands of buildings to examine how the adoption of new design elements, equipment, or appliances could change how much and when people use electricity. This type of detailed analysis and volume of simulations could only be made possible with the uniquely integrated capabilities of NREL.
