The SolarSIM-D2+ offers a low cost option of measuring solar spectral irradiance for renewable energy applications. The SolarSIM-D2+ measures the solar intensity at several narrow band wavelength regions then uses a model to generate accurate spectral data from 280 to 4000 nm. Raw data from the instrument is logged by a Campbell data logger and then made available on this web site where the user can generate spectral data on-the-fly (one spectrum at a time) or the user can download the provided modeling software from the manufacture to generate large volumes of spectral data from the raw data.
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) purchased a Direct Normal SolarSIM-D2+ from Spectrafy in 2015. The instrument was installed at the Solar Radiation Research Laboratory (SRRL) on September 1, 2016. The long-term performance of the SolarSIM-D2+ will be compared to traditional diode-array spectroradiometers located at SRRL.
