Quality Assurance Checklist
This list is used to review all NREL.gov websites (new sites and redesigns) before they are approved to go live.
Template Elements
- Follows NREL Style Guide and NREL Web Standards
 - Title tags are in the NREL style and are approved for site.
 - Anchor links are used to skip repetitive navigation links in header and left navigation.
 - On sub pages, the site header links back to that site's homepage.
 - The correct NREL level navigation (top tabs) is working and uses on and off states correctly.
 - Pages are responsive and work on mobile devices.
 - Left navigation links are working and uses on and off states correctly.
 
Directories and Files
- Separate subdirectories are used for major subsites or content categories linked from the main site (e.g., /about/).
 - All extraneous, non-linked files have been deleted.
 
Page by Page QA
- File names do not contain upper case letters, spaces, or special characters (e.g., & or $). Hyphens are used to separate words in file names.
 - File names clearly denote their content.
 - A spell check is conducted on every page.
 - Internal links are coded relatively.
 - If used, "Back to Top" anchor links use the correct style and verbiage.
 - Alt descriptions are used with all client side image maps.
 - Each page has a meaningful and unique title tag and uses NREL style.
 - Information conveyed with color is also available without color and foreground and background colors provide sufficient contrast.
 - All links work.
 - Graphics have meaningful "alt" tags (use empty alt tags for graphics that do not add meaning to the content).
 - References to native files and PDFs within the HTML show their appropriate icon.
 - Pages are still understandable with a style sheet turned off.
 - Row and column headings are provided for all data tables.
 - Page components are styled per NREL Style Guide.
 - Page has been tested in various screen sizes and devices to ensure they are optimized for responsive.
 - All elements are accessible by keyboard.
 - Web forms have associated labels.
 - Dynamic content is accessible to a screen reader.
 
Multimedia
- All multimedia standards are followed.
 - The Multimedia QA Checklist, Browser Testing Suite, and Text Versions requirements are met.
 
PDFs
- PDFs open to correct view.
 - PDFs incorporate appropriate subject and title meta data.
 - Scanned PDFs have an HTML alternative.
