Multimedia Quality Assurance Checklist

Use these quality assurance (QA) checklists to ensure your audio files, animations, and videos meet all NREL standards. Section 508 requirements are indicated in red. For more information, see the NREL standards for multimedia applications.

Animations

  • All links within the animation work properly.
  • The screen does not flicker with a frequency of greater than 2 Hz and lower than 55 Hz. [508]
  • The animation has a text version. [508]
  • The animation has a hidden text alternative for users who cannot see. [508]
  • The animation is located in the /media/ directory.
  • Any ancillary files are located in /media/includes/.

Audio

  • All audio files include a text version. [508]
  • The content includes a link to download Windows Media Player and iTunes. [508]
  • The files are in MP3 format.
  • A link to download the audio file is included.
  • The link to download the file follows the native file format linking requirements.
  • The files are located in the /media/ directory.
  • Any ancillary files are located in /media/includes/.

Videos

  • The video is posted on NREL's YouTube channel.
  • The video is captioned. [508]
  • The video has a text version. [508]
  • The video is embedded directly on a webpage.
  • The video is located in the site's /media/ folder.
  • Any ancillary files are located in /media/includes/.
