Governance and Web Publishing

The Communications and Public Affairs Office manages the NREL.gov website. This includes establishing standards for URLs, look and feel, information architecture, and technical components. The Communications and Public Affairs Office ensures that NREL.gov follows both external government web policies and internal publication policies.

The Internet Development Advisory Board represents various centers and offices throughout the lab and advises the Communications and Public Affairs Office on the strategic direction for the public website.

The Communications and Public Affairs Office is responsible for the homepage, news features and news releases, and corporate NREL content such as the About section. Programs, centers, and offices are responsible for providing and maintaining content on topics under their purview that are of interest to the lab's audiences and stakeholders.

NREL Enterprise Manager

Manages all sections of NREL's website and approves new sites. Establishes and enforces all site standards including technical, information architecture, branding, publications, and URLs.

Communications Representative

The point of contact from the Communications and Public Affairs Office who handles communication needs for NREL staff. The communications representative also assists with web writing, editing, and consultation for overall digital strategy.

Developer

Codes and integrates the website and ensures it meets technical standards.

Graphic Designer

Designs the website interface and other multimedia posted on the website. Ensures imagery, including illustrations, charts, graphs, and icons meet NREL.gov standards and is available to recreate illustrations and renderings as needed.

Information Architect

Reviews all site architecture and navigation and recommends solutions to the communications representative and enterprise manager.

Search Optimization Specialist

Manages search code and works with writers to optimize content for commercial and onsite search engines.

Hosting and System Administration

NREL's Information Technology Services is responsible for web hosting, cyber security, system administration, and email services.
