Materials for Chemistry Applications
In addition to materials for energy and electronics, NREL has a range of capabilities for materials discovery in chemistry applications such as electrocatalysts, thermochemical materials, and batteries.

Battery Materials Research
Our battery materials research focuses on developing model electrodes and coating materials for silicon anodes; lithium-metal batteries; sulfide-, nitride-, polymeric-, and other solid electrolytes; and other emerging energy storage technologies.

Electrocatalytic Materials Research
Our electrochemical materials research focuses on ceramic proton conductive fuel cells and electrolyzers and included proton exchange membrane electrolysis catalysts.

Solar Thermochemical Materials Research
Our solar thermo-chemical hydrogen research focuses on discovery of new redox materials and optimization of the high-potential solar thermo-chemical hydrogen candidates by high-throughput experimental methods for generation of hydrogen at elevated temperature.
