Solutions-Driven Partnerships for the Manufacturing and Industrial Sectors

NLR works with partners to bridge innovation gaps that drive advanced manufacturing technologies and innovative industrial processes to market.

NLR offers industrial sector partners a suite of complementary capabilities that meet industry's needs for process innovation and allow innovative use of domestic resources. Partnership highlights include:

The West Gate Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program offers promising entrepreneurs a career-changing opportunity to access NLR's expertise and capabilities to speed the development of their startup's core technologies.

NLR is one of four national laboratories leading the National Alliance for Water Innovation, a 10-year, $185-million energy-water desalination hub.

NLR works with the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation to identify new manufacturing pathways and uses for domestically sourced composite materials.

The U.S. Department of Energy's Onsite Energy Technical Assistance Partnerships help American industrial users lower costs; install onsite energy technologies; and increase resilience, security, and energy independence. NLR is one of three labs with subject matter expertise in onsite energy deployment supporting this program.

NLR focuses on applied solutions to achieve near-term critical materials and rare earth production increases and works with industrial partners to accelerate domestic production of these materials. NLR also has expertise in designing integrated systems for resource extraction and developing and optimizing metallurgical processes. Additionally, NLR is helping secure U.S. supply chains through reduction and replacement of critical materials, with a focus on the development of new materials, especially semiconductor materials. To learn more about how we can work together in this space, contact Kerry Rippy.

You can partner with NLR through technology partner agreements or entrepreneurship programs. NLR's award-winning energy technologies are also available for licensing. For more information about how to partner with us, visit NLR's Work With Us page. You can also review our lab's advanced manufacturing areas of research and impacts.

NLR partners with industries, universities, foundations, utilities, communities, and governments to develop research collaborations, license NLR technologies, support energy stakeholders, and accelerate energy innovation and systems integration. NLR also partners with organizations on competitive opportunities.

NLR partners with stakeholders to develop robust supply chains, cutting-edge materials, and innovative industrial technologies to enable cost-effective energy solutions. Current priorities include:

  • Artificial intelligence systems and controls
