equations
You can abbreviate "equation" when you use it with numbers, but spell it out at the beginning of a sentence.
See Eq. 1-1 and Eq. 2-7.
Equation 2-1 shows the relation.
Make sure that all the terms in your equations are defined and used consistently both in the text and in subsequent equations, figures, and tables.
The conductive heat flow equation is:
dQ/dt = AKdT/dx
where
dQ/dt = the time rate of heat transfer
A = the area of an end contact
K = the thermal conductivity
dT/dx = the thermal gradient.
