2023 Twin Cities Travel Behavior Inventory/Household Travel Survey

The 2023 Twin Cities Travel Behavior Inventory/Household Travel Survey helped local and regional planning agencies understand how shifting demographics and community development affect transportation system usage in that area of Minnesota.

Survey results aided the Metropolitan Council in proposing practical transportation investments, preparing competitive grant applications, and prioritizing improvements to best fit regional needs.

Data Collection Agency

RSG conducted the survey for the Metropolitan Council.

Survey Methodology

The mixed-mode survey was conducted Jan. 12, 2023–Jan. 16, 2024.

Participants accessed the survey using the rMove smartphone-based travel survey app, website, or call center. A questionnaire captured data on demographics, daily travel activities, and typical transportation patterns to inform model updates and gain information about emerging behavioral changes such as electric vehicle adoption and teleworking frequency.
