NREL's next Partner Forum—May 5–6, 2026—will convene leaders to discuss solutions and challenges related to supply chain and critical minerals for energy systems, from mine to device.

A crowd of seated people look at a speaker standing on a stage in front of a purple-draped backdrop.

Registration for this event will open in late 2025. For event inquiries, contact the NREL Partner Forum team.

The supply chain for energy systems spans the entire life cycle from resource extraction to the final energy device. This includes mining, material processing, component manufacturing, assembly, distribution, operation, and end-of-life materials management. Each stage is crucial for delivering functional energy technologies.

Critical minerals are vital for many advanced energy technologies, and their journey, from mine to device, is a key part of the supply chain. This involves mining, processing into usable materials, manufacturing components, and final integration into the energy system device. Ensuring a secure and consistent supply of these minerals is essential for delivering affordable and abundant energy.
