LA100 Equity Strategies Project Identifies Equitable Pathways to 100% Clean Energy (Text Version)

This is the text version of the video LA100 Equity Strategies Project Identifies Equitable Pathways to 100% Clean Energy.

>>Narrator: In the transition to a clean energy future in the city of Los Angeles, we know every resident needs to be part of the journey, including those who can least afford the changes.

Equity must be a priority, which means a firm commitment to inclusivity every step of the way, so communities can help guide and benefit from their new energy landscape.

Enter, LA100 Equity Strategies: A partnership to improve energy equity in the city of Los Angeles, led by the L.A. Department of Water and Power with support from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the University of California Los Angeles.

LA100 Equity Strategies picks up where the Los Angeles 100% Renewable Energy Study left off... Incorporating extensive community and stakeholder input to explore pathways, means, and methods to make clean energy affordable and accessible for everyone; including underserved, low-income, and historically marginalized communities whose residents have often been left-out or left-behind. Ensuring these groups are included in the process will create change to benefit all Angelenos.

>>Cynthia McClain-Hill, Board President, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power: So not only will we lead with clean energy, but we’re leading with equity as well. All of us are moving into the future, a carbon-free future, together. One city strong.

>>Narrator: LA100 Equity Strategies identifies practical approaches to break through the barriers to energy equity. The report offers data and actionable strategies to enable the City of Los Angeles to make effective and educated decisions about its energy future, while improving health, affordability, accessibility, and creating new job opportunities.

And the results of these strategies can reverberate well beyond the L.A. City limits, serving as a blueprint for other utilities and metropolitan areas pursuing their own ambitious, equitable clean energy goals, setting the stage for communities around the world to pursue an equitable clean energy future.
