Planned Network Outage: July 11–13

July 10, 2025

Due to campus infrastructure work outside of ESIF, a scheduled network outage will make Kestrel and other HPC systems hosted at NREL temporarily unreachable to all network traffic.

This outage will start at 5 p.m. MT on Friday, July 11, and is scheduled to end at 11:59 p.m. MT on Sunday, July 13.

Kestrel and other HPC systems will remain powered-on and operational during this time, and jobs will continue to run in the queue. But all network entry points—including login nodes, Globus, SSH gateways, and other HPC-related services —will not be accessible. Some services may remain unavailable until Monday morning.

Any jobs relying on network connectivity outside of the cluster—including jobs running software modules that use external license servers such as Ansys, COMSOL, Converge, and StarCCM+—will fail during this time, so please plan your jobs accordingly or use an "scontrol hold" for your queued job(s) for the weekend and "scontrol release" when connectivity is restored and an all-clear email is issued on Monday morning.

Please reach out to [email protected] if you have questions or need assistance.
