Tina Herrera guides NREL's strategy for recruiting, developing, and retaining the workforce that successfully executes the lab's mission and vision.

Since joining the lab in 2022, Herrera has led NREL's People Strategy development to create an inclusion-centered workplace for the future. The strategy focuses on five areas in pursuit of change initiatives that enhance NREL's work environment. The People Strategy embraces safety, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility values.

Herrera’s extensive career in the national laboratory system began at Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1998. She spent 13 years at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in progressively responsible leadership positions including strategic HR partner and chief diversity officer. Herrera has also served Battelle—a nonprofit research and development organization that helps manage several national laboratories, including NREL—on several successful laboratory operating contract rebid and transition teams. She has expertise in HR operations, organizational development, management and operating contract bids and transitions, and equity and inclusion strategy.

She holds a bachelor's degree in human resources management from New Mexico State University and a master's degree in organizational development from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California.
