Chris Gearhart joined NREL in 2012 as director of the Hydrogen Technologies and Systems Center. In 2013 he was appointed to his current position as director of NREL’s Center for Integrated Mobility Sciences, where he manages a staff of more than 150 scientists and engineers developing advanced transportation technologies.
Before embarking on his NREL career, he held various leadership positions focusing on fuel cell and hydrogen storage research at Ford Motor Company, and also played pivotal roles in product development, safety research, and quality assurance. On the academic front, he has taught at Michigan State University and the School for Renewable Energy Science in Iceland. He has authored or co-authored more than 55 publications and holds three patents.
