Puget Sound Express Bus, Sounder, and Tacoma Link Origin-Destination Transit Study

The 2019 Express Bus, Sounder, and Tacoma Link Origin-Destination Transit Study improved understanding of transit travel patterns in the central Puget Sound region in Washington.

EMC Research conducted the study for the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority.

Study Methodology

The multifaceted study was carried out in English, Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog, Korean, and Vietnamese for Sound Transit’s express bus service (Feb. 12—May 2, 2019), Sounder commuter-rail service (Feb. 19—March 21, 2019), and Tacoma Link light-rail service (Feb. 4—6, 2019).

Interviewers distributed paper-based surveys to passengers, with instructions to record information about their current one-way trip. Respondents were given the option of returning the survey while on board or via mail.
