Xin Fang is a senior researcher at NREL in the Transmission & Distribution Interactions Group within the Grid Planning and Analysis Center. His research focuses on the electricity system planning and market design research with renewable energy integration. He participated and led several U.S. Department of Energy funded projects on wind and solar integration to analyze the impacts of high penetration renewables on power system planning, market operation, and design such as the flexible ramping products analysis, the operation risk mitigation mechanism in market operation, and multi-timescale modeling for energy storage, participating in both energy and ancillary services markets and collaborating with ERCOT, CAISO, NYISO and MISO on multiple projects. He also led several projects to analyze the impacts of distributed energy resources integration on the bulk power system stability and cyber-physical dynamics. Before joining NREL, he worked at GE Grid Solutions as a software engineer. His job responsibility included the market clearing engine development and maintenance for PJM's day ahead and real-time energy market and the reliability price model of their capacity market.
