Swapnil Bhatkar is a cloud engineer at NREL. He currently supports the research cloud infrastructure for different NREL research groups where he assists scientists, researchers, and developers to build proactive systems, develop modern applications using microservices and serverless patterns, and more importantly, secure their systems and data in the cloud. He is leading the cloud training initiative to teach cloud computing to staff across the lab by building a training portal for hands-on laboratories and develop content related to core cloud services. His primary focus is on cloud security where he wants to set up a centralized security governance for the organization to improve its security posture using the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s cyber requirements and a cloud security reference architecture build for a “zero-trust” initiative in accordance with a recent federal executive order to improve the nation’s cybersecurity.
