Pietro Bortolotti is a senior researcher at the National Wind Technology Center in the group of wind energy systems. Pietro leads the U.S. Department of Energy-funded projects Big Adaptive Rotor, which focuses on the next generation of land-based wind turbine technology, and Holistic Systems Engineering, which aims to apply multi-fidelity design approaches to wind turbine and wind farm optimizations. Pietro also leads various other projects on wind turbine technology and improves numerical models for the multidisciplinary design, analysis, and optimization of wind turbines, such as WISDEM, WEIS, and OpenFAST. Before joining NREL, Pietro obtained his Ph.D. at the Wind Energy Institute of the Technical University of Munich in Germany.
