Juliane Irine Preimesberger joined NREL in August 2022 as a postdoctoral researcher in the Chemistry and Nanoscience Center. Her current research is on the mechanics of lithium-ion batteries, where she is involved in two multi-laboratory consortia that focus on improving silicon anode batteries and recycling lithium battery materials. Before starting at NREL, she completed her doctorate at Princeton University in Professor Craig Arnold’s group. There, she studied the connection between mechanics and electrochemistry in lithium-ion electrode materials, deriving performance metrics for mechano-electrochemical energy harvesters and using techniques like neutron diffraction to provide insight into the mechanism behind the mechano-electrochemical effect.
