John Leicht is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a master’s degree in applied statistics in May 2020. While earning his degree, he worked as a graduate assistant at the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences in its i-Ask Center. There he learned the skills and knowledge to work as a high-performance computing user support technician with NREL.
Prior to NREL and graduate school, he was a Peace Corps volunteer in Tanzania from 2015–2018. He taught physics at Sadani Secondary School and worked at Global Outreach Tanzania both located within the Iringa Region of Tanzania. Upon returning to the United States in 2018, he embarked on a cross-country cycling trip (Virginia to Oregon) that summer with Bike and Build, where he helped to raise money and awareness for affordable housing in the United States.
