A research engineer, Jacob (Jake) Holden leads the Decarbonized Vehicle Systems team in NREL's Center for Integrated Mobility Sciences. His research focuses on modeling the energy impacts of new mobility technologies such as advanced powertrains, connected and automated vehicles, large-scale transportation electrification, and energy-aware route optimization. This work is applied internationally to inform strategies aimed at reducing transportation system reliance on non-sustainable energy sources. To support these efforts, he leads the development of NREL's RouteE Energy Prediction Model and contributes to other tools including the Future Automotive Systems Technology Simulator and the Transportation Secure Data Center. His diverse background also includes working in turbomachinery design, testing, and analysis for GE Aviation and the U.S. Air Force.
