Jon is the Principal Investigator of the Drivetrain Reliability Collaborative, a consortium of government, industry, and university partners studying wind turbine drivetrain reliability through focused dynamometer and field testing, analysis, and modeling. In addition, Jon was the Principal Investigator for the NREL-led Next Generation Drivetrain team, which developed and tested a medium speed, medium voltage drivetrain to increase torque density and reliability while reducing operations and maintenance and deployment costs. Prior to joining NREL, Jon worked for the U.S. Army at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama for 10 years, where he developed condition monitoring systems for Army rotorcraft to reduce the cost and maintenance burdens while increasing availability and safety.
