David Palchak is a member of the Grid Systems Analysis Group in the Strategic Energy Analysis Center.
David joined the Strategic Energy Analysis Center at NREL in 2012. His work at NREL has been focused on power system operations at high renewable penetrations including strategies to increase efficiency such as coal flexibility, demand response or storage, and operating reserves. These strategies for cost-effective renewable integration has spanned studies in both the Western and Eastern Interconnections of North America. He has also worked extensively with the Government of India to help them achieve renewable energy targets through large-scale grid integration studies as well as expanding the modeling capabilities of India’s grid operators through trainings and consultations.
Prior to NREL David received his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University where he performed research on electrical load forecasting and demand response. He also has a B.A. from Kenyon College.
