Updated Solar Resource Maps Available for India

July 15, 2013

Through funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Department of State, and in collaboration with India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, NREL has updated its 10-kilometer (km) solar resource maps for India.

The new maps incorporate updated 10-km hourly solar resource data developed using weather satellite measurements combined with site-time specific solar modeling. Additionally, the maps expand the time of analysis by four years, from 2002-2007 to 2002-2011 and include enhanced aerosols information to improve estimates of direct normal irradiance.

The data is available in both geographic information system and static map formats on NREL’s website for both global horizontal irradiance and direct normal irradiance.
