New Release of SolTrace Software a Powerful Optical Modeling Tool

July 19, 2011

Over the years, as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory has needed to model solar optical systems that have become more and more complex, it found that existing computer modeling tools were inadequate. So the laboratory developed SolTrace, a software program that uses a code that employs Monte Carlo ray-tracing methodology to model concentrating solar power (CSP) systems and analyze these systems’ performance. Although ideally suited for solar applications, the code can also be used to model and characterize general optical systems.

Learn more about SolTrace and download the latest version of the program at the new NREL SolTrace website.
