Golden, Colo., May 5, 1999 A scientist at the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) was recognized for his contributions to the science and technology of energy-related research. The Energy Technology Division (ETD) of The Electrochemical Society selected Dr. Al Czanderna for its Fourth Research Award in recognition of his outstanding solar research.
During his 21-year career at NREL, Czanderna's work has focused on researching and developing solar technologies, including multi-layer photovoltaic (solar electric) modules, electrochromic energy-saving windows and solar reflectors used in concentrating solar power systems to make electricity. Czanderna, a research fellow and internationally recognized surface scientist, is the author or co-author of more than 250 technical publications.
