Conference Offers Girls Opportunity to Expand Career Horizons

Golden, Colo., Feb. 11, 1997 -- Expanding Your Horizons, a conference for girls grades 6 - 9 and their teachers, parents and counselors, will expose students to the career opportunities open to them in math, science, technology and non-traditional occupations.

The conference will take place Saturday, February 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Red Rocks Community College. Pre-registration is required by Friday, February 14.

Students will participate in two hands-on workshops presented by women who work in the fields of computers, math, engineering, natural sciences, medical sciences, public service and the construction trades. Adults at the conference will attend separate sessions designed to increase awareness of opportunities and challenges for young women in dealing with gender equity issues, media literacy and how mass media effects young women in our society.
