Golden, Colo., May 6, 1996 -- The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will host a community meeting May 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the NREL Visitors Center, 15013 Denver West Parkway.
Frank Stewart, DOE's Golden Field Officer Manager, will discuss a variety of issues including planned construction projects on NREL's 300-acre campus. Construction plans include building two new experiments on the South Table Mountain site this year. One is a small power plant for studying geothermal energy; the other is a solar thermal project which uses mirrors to concentrate sunlight to generate electricity. The experiments are not expected to be prominently visible to the surrounding community. Proposed plans for Camp George West land located adjacent to the NREL site also will be discussed.
To reach the meeting take I-70 to exit 263, Denver West Boulevard. Turn north towards the Marriott Hotel and take the first left onto Denver West Parkway. Continue for about 1/2 mile and turn right into the Visitors Center parking lot. The meeting will be in the auditorium.
