WinHPC System Configuration
WinHPC’s system configuration at NREL includes its processors, nodes, software environment, and system backups.
- Intel Xeon E5530 (2.4 GHz, 4 cores, 80W)
- Intel Xeon X5675 (3.06 GHz, 6 cores, 95W)
- Intel Xeon E5-2680 (2.7 GHz, 8 cores, 130W)
- AMD Opteron 2374 HE (2.2 GHz, 4 cores, 55W)
The WinHPC cluster currently consists of a head node (WinHPC01), login node (WinHPC02) and worker/compute nodes. The head node acts as the file, DNS, and license server. The login node is where the users connect to access the cluster.
Node 03 has dual Intel Xeon E5530 CPUs with 48GB of memory.
Node 04 has dual Intel Xeon E5530 CPUs with 24GB of memory.
Nodes 05-20 have dual AMD Opteron 2374 HE CPUs with 16GB of memory.
Nodes 21-30 have been decommissioned.
Nodes 31-35 have dual Intel Xeon X5675 CPUs with 48GB of memory.
Nodes 36-37 have dual Intel Xeon E5-2680 CPUs with 64GB of memory.
Nodes 41-50 have been decommissioned.
WinHPC runs Windows Server 2008 R2 HPC Edition.
The login node, WinHPC02, is where users login to access the system. This is where applications and software development tools are accessible from. Intel Parallel Studio XE 2011, MATLAB and ANSYS 13 are just a few of the available applications and development tools available to users. All installed programs can be seen by going to Start > All Programs on the login node.
System state backups are run daily. Working data is retained for 30 days. All backups are currently run and maintained by NREL’s Information Technology Services department.
