ESIF Visiting Scholars User Call
NREL's Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF) Visiting Scholars User Call invites faculty and students to conduct research in the facility's state-of-the-art laboratories.
The ESIF hosts a collection of interconnected laboratories that can accommodate megawatt-scale research and development (R&D) at full power. Research at the ESIF focuses on modernizing the electrical grid and beyond, addressing the integration of multiple energy systems including water, thermal energy, and fuels.
Applications for the ESIF Visiting Scholars User Call are accepted throughout the year, and meritorious applications will be granted on a rolling basis. To be considered for this call, projects must align with one of the following areas:
- The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Grid Modernization Initiative, which represents a comprehensive DOE effort to help shape the future of our nation's grid and solve the challenges of integrating conventional and renewable sources with energy storage and smart buildings, while ensuring that the grid is resilient and secure to withstand growing cybersecurity and resiliency challenges.
- The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
- Energy systems integration, which addresses important points of integration between the electric power system and infrastructure such as water, thermal energy systems, and fuel systems.
By immersing into the ESIF ecosystem, visiting researchers will carry valuable insights and new capabilities back to their home institutions. Learn more about eligibility and how to apply by viewing the solicitation.
