To get more solar power onto the grid, researchers are working to find ways to tame solar power's variable nature. Solar inverters offer a lot of potential to help with this, and manufacturers like Solectria are developing advanced inverters that can better manage solar power reliability and quality.

With utility-scale hardware and megawatt-level simulations, the ESIF is the perfect place to subject these inverters to both typical and extreme conditions to see how they respond—without risking power loss to actual utility customers.
