NREL and Solectria Developing Advanced Photovoltaic Inverters
NREL is partnering with Solectria at the Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF) to develop photovoltaic inverters with advanced features that can support the electric grid.
To get more solar power onto the grid, researchers are working to find ways to tame solar power's variable nature. Solar inverters offer a lot of potential to help with this, and manufacturers like Solectria are developing advanced inverters that can better manage solar power reliability and quality.
With utility-scale hardware and megawatt-level simulations, the ESIF is the perfect place to subject these inverters to both typical and extreme conditions to see how they respond—without risking power loss to actual utility customers.
