About Climate Neutral Research Campuses
Research campuses consume more energy per square foot than most facilities. They also have greater opportunities to reduce energy consumption, implement renewable energy systems, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and set an example of climate neutrality.

NREL developed the concept and this website with support from Labs21—a former joint venture of the U.S. Department of Energy's Federal Energy Management Program and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories has adopted all Labs21 resources and continues to develop new sustainable laboratory resources.
