Julie D. Baker — Associate Laboratory Director

Julie Baker oversees NREL's SITE operations, environment, health, safety, information technology, and quality management functions.

She came to NREL in May 2016 from Idaho National Laboratory (INL), where she served as director of business at INL's Materials and Fuels Complex.

She has expertise in many aspects of nuclear facility operations, business and mission development. In addition to her most recent role at INL, Baker has served in a variety of operations, engineering, science and technology, and management positions over the course of more than 25 years. Among these assignments was her role as special assistant to INL's laboratory director. During that time, Baker engaged in the full array of INL's internal and external strategic priorities.

Baker has a bachelor's degree in process technology from the University of Idaho and studied mechanical engineering at Utah State University. She serves on the governing committee that oversees operations at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and is a certified U.S. Department of Energy accident investigator.
