Deb Doel-Hammond — Chief Human Resources Officer

As chief human resources officer, Deb Doel-Hammond is responsible for recruitment, development, and retention of the highly diverse and talented NREL workforce. She brings more than 20 years of progressive experience in various industries with leadership experience in all human resources (HR) functional areas.

Prior to joining NREL, Doel-Hammond was senior director of human resources at The Allen Institute, a Seattle-based nonprofit bioscience research organization. There she led HR and organizational development activities and played a key role in evolving the institute from a single operating entity to multiple operating arms, in partnership with the chief executive officer and board of directors.

As senior human resources leader at the Boeing Company, Doel-Hammond led a multiyear integration of 7,000 employees across all Boeing product lines. She was heavily involved in lowering costs and increasing effectiveness of all HR service delivery aspects for both union and nonunion environments, with a focus on employee engagement and safety.

As an independent consultant, Doel-Hammond has counseled organizations on strategy and organizational culture development, team collaboration, and virtual team work designs. And her experience includes HR policy, communication, and integration responsibilities for financial services mergers.

Her successful track record as an executive leader includes major initiatives around leadership development, definition of organizational values and talent strategies, long-term compensation strategies, and safety and inclusion.

Doel-Hammond has an Ed.D. in organizational leadership from Pepperdine University. She has a master's degree in organization management from Fielding University and a bachelor's degree in organization management from Northwest University.
