Wind Research

Information and Outreach

As part of its effort to advance wind energy technologies and increase development, NREL publishes information and conducts outreach efforts to help industry stakeholders as well as the general public understand the benefits of wind energy and the technical and nontechnical barriers that impede development. Each year, NREL publishes dozens of technical reports and papers that keep industry informed of its latest R&D efforts and accomplishments.

Example of different publications developed by the NREL Wind Research team. Shown is a cover for Wind Power Today and covers for two factsheets; Controls Advanced Research Turbine: Lessons Learned during Advanced Controls Testing and A WindPACT Turbine RotorDesign Study.

In addition, NREL's Wind Powering America (WPA) team collaborates with industry members and special interest groups on state and regional levels to mitigate nontechnical barriers and increase our nation's wind energy capacity. The goal of WPA is to have at least 30 states with 100 MW of installed wind capacity by 2010. To increase the number of states with 100 MW of wind capacity, WPA focuses its outreach efforts on state-based activities, rural economic development, public power partnerships, Native American activities, and small wind systems.
