Collaborate and Share Knowledge at the North American Wind Energy Academy Symposium
July 3, 2013
The North American Wind Energy Academy (NAWEA) is experiencing another “first” since hosting its inaugural meeting in August 2012: the organization’s first symposium. The event is sponsored by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute (RASEI), the University of Colorado Boulder, and the U.S. Department of Energy, and will be held at the University of Colorado Boulder from August 6 to 8, 2013. Interested participants must register at the NAWEA website by July 22, 2013.
The purpose of NAWEA’s symposium is to bring together industry, academia, and research institution stakeholders to engage in an open forum dialogue about wind energy technologies and high penetration of those technologies throughout the U.S. electricity sector. The two-and-a-half day event will include keynote addresses by Sandy McDonald, Director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Earth System Research Laboratory and Chief Science Advisor for the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, and Peter Hauge Madsen, Head of the Department of the Danish Technical University, as well as plenary talks and technical sessions. For the technical sessions, participants can choose from a wide range of topics:
· Wind energy system science and engineering
· Grid integration and management
· Electrical transmission
· Atmospheric sciences
· Environmental sciences
· Social acceptance
· Policy research
· Business and financing
· Innovative/new technology
· Education and curriculum.
A graduate student symposium will follow on Thursday afternoon, as will a business meeting of NAWEA open to all interested parties. Also, on Friday, August 9, Jason Jonkman of the National Wind Technology Center at NREL will present an all-day training on FAST¾NREL’s suite of computer-aided engineering tools for wind turbine modeling. There is no additional fee for the FAST workshop, but preregistration is required.
Register today to be a part of this exciting and informative event.
