NREL Completes Highly Successful Partnership with NPS

In July, NREL completed a subcontract with Northern Power Systems entitled "Advanced Power Electronics for Low Wind Speed Turbine Applications" that represents a highly successful partnership meeting all of the objectives of a Low Wind Speed Technology Project. The resulting product of the subcontract is a modular, highly efficient power electronics package that can be scaled for use in a wide range of wind turbines from small to multimegawatt systems and will be marketed by NPS as a major component for grid-connected power systems. Delivery of the first prototype units is expected in November 2006.
