Policy Analysis
NREL performs policy analyses to support the Energy Policy Act of 1992 and other requirements that accelerate the use of alternative fuels vehicles and reduce our nation's dependence on imported petroleum.
The Regulatory Support team evaluates national and local regulations and policies to identify their potential to reduce petroleum consumption and their possible implications for federal, state, and alternative fuel provider fleets. We evaluate existing and proposed policies from technical and programmatic standpoints and submit recommendations to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for consideration.
NREL researchers also provide DOE with analyses that support efforts to increase the use of alternative fuels in federal and alternative fuel provider fleets. Additionally, NREL provides customized analyses and targeted studies that allow DOE to identify fuel use trends, impacts of legislative changes, and infrastructure requirements.
