The New Fuels Technology Impacts project focuses on studying environmental science and health effects to identify the atmospheric impacts of operating vehicles on conventional and alternative transportation fuels. At NREL we analyze ambient air samples and exhaust emission data to determine the effects of pollutants on air quality, visibility, and human health.

The New Fuels Technology Impacts project coordinates its research with automobile and engine manufacturers, the petroleum industry, the scientific community, various environmental agencies, and the engine and fuel research community.

NREL's New Fuels Technology Impacts research is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. This work supports many NREL programs and is led by the Center for Transportation Technologies and Systems (CTTS). The New Fuels Technology Impacts project is part of CTTS' Fuels Performance Group. Other projects within this group include Advanced Petroleum Based Fuels, Nonpetroleum Based Fuels, and the Renewable Fuels and Lubricants (ReFUEL) Laboratory.

NREL's New Fuels Technology Impacts research supports the U.S. Department of Energy's Vehicle Technologies Program.
