Dallas Area Rapid Transit Liquefied Natural Gas Buses

The Fleet Test and Evaluation team worked with Dallas Area Rapid Transit to study the performance and operational costs of 15 liquefied natural gas (LNG) buses in service and compared them with the performance of five diesel buses operating on comparable routes.

From February 1999 to January 2000, the Fleet Test and Evaluation team collected data on the 15 buses, which were manufactured by NovaBus and equipped with Cummins engines. Dallas Area Rapid Transit transports 200,000 passengers per day, covering a 700-square-mile service area.

The results of this study are featured in DART's LNG Bus Fleet: Final Results.

Additional information on Dallas Area Rapid Transit is available on the Alternative Fuels Publications page.
