U.S. Postal Service Biodiesel Delivery Trucks
The Fleet Test and Evaluation and Nonpetroleum Based Fuels team worked with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to study the effects of biodiesel on delivery vehicle engines.
The first federal agency to use B20, USPS operates more than 200,000 vehicles and maintains the largest U.S. fleet of alternative fuel vehicles. For this study, the Fleet Test and Evaluation and Nonpetroleum Based Fuels teams removed, disassembled, inspected, and evaluated the engines and fuel systems of four USPS 1993 Ford cargo vans and four 1996 Mack tractor trucks to compare wear characteristics.
The results of this study are featured in Operating Experience and Teardown Analysis for Engines Operated on Biodiesel Blends (B20).
