Alternative Fuels

The Fleet Test and Evaluation team is working with industry partners to evaluate the use of alternative fuels in delivery, transit, and freight vehicles.

Although biodiesel has become the most commonly used alternative fuel in medium- and heavy-duty diesel vehicles, compressed and liquefied natural gas, as well as Fischer-Tropsch diesel, are viable options for trucking companies.

The Fleet Test and Evaluation team is researching the following alternative fuels in fleets.

  • Biodiesel
  • Compressed Natural Gas
  • Fischer-Tropsch Diesel
  • Liquefied Natural Gas
