The Fleet Test and Evaluation (FT&E) team supports the Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity, which is part of the U.S. Department of Energy's Vehicle Technologies Program. The Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity benchmarks and validates the performance of light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles that feature one or more advanced technologies, including the following:
- Internal combustion engines burning advanced fuels, such as 100% hydrogen and hydrogen/compressed natural gas-blended fuels
- Hybrid electric, pure electric, and hydraulic drive systems
- Advanced batteries and engines
- Advanced climate control, power electronic, and other ancillary systems
The FT&E team supports the Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity by conducting medium- and heavy-duty vehicle evaluations, including evaluations of transit buses, trucks, and idle reduction technologies. The team's tasks include recommending types of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles to test, identifying fleets to evaluate, designing test plans, gathering on-site data, preparing technical reports, and communicating results on its Web site and in print publications.
The Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity is conducted jointly by the FT&E team and the Idaho National Laboratory. For more information, visit the Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity Web site. See the following pages for information about specific Fleet Test and Evaluation projects:
