Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Technical Assistance Project for state and local officials, this Webinar discussed how to reduce energy consumption in data centers.

Background Materials

  • Partnering with Computer Data Centers
The EERE Industrial Technologies Program Save Energy Now sponsors a major initiative to reduce energy consumption in data centers. Save Energy Now also publishes a fact sheet about the program titled Saving Energy at Data Centers.

  • Data Centers Research at LBNL
LBNL is the lead research institution in the United States investigating how to reduce energy consumption in data centers. This page links to the LBNL research roadmap for data centers, benchmark studies of energy consumption in data centers, studies about possible paths for reducing energy consumption in the components of data center operation, and best practices.

  • Energy Efficiency in Data Centers: Recommendations for Government-Industry Coordination
This report summarizes results of a July 2008 workshop held jointly by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and DOE titled National Data Center Energy Efficiency Strategy Workshop.
